Who were The Who before they were The Who?
The Who: Detours / The High Numbers
The Detours were formed in 1962, before changing their names to The High Numbers two years later when releasing "Zoot Suit/I'm the Face." After the single failed, the group became "The Who."
The Who
When the band recorded a cover of the influential British hit “Shakin' All Over” in 1965, Quality Records producer George Struth released it to radio stations under the moniker "Guess Who?" in the hope that DJs would be more inclined to play a song by a mysterious new British band.
"Do you know that The Who's first hit record was in Michigan?" He said the song was "Happy Jack," singing a few words from the 1967 hit, which made it into the Top 40. "And we played in Ann Arbor, and some guys in a band called MC5 came to see us," Townshend recalled.
Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have been the band's only constant members throughout its history.
The Who Sell Out, The Who's third album was released on Track Records on 15 December 1967 (Track 612 002 [mono] & 613 002 [stereo]). The first CD version was issued by Polydor in the early 1980s (835 727-24) and a remastered version in 1995. The remastered version was produced by Jon Astley.
The Who. Roger Daltrey started up the Detours in 1959 with John Entwistle, Harry Wilson, Colin Dawson, and Pete Townshend. In 1964, the Detours were made aware of another band, Johnny Devlin and the Detours, and immediately set out to change their name.
The other members of the Who fired Daltrey from the band in late 1965 after he beat up their drummer Keith Moon for supplying illegal drugs to Townshend and Entwistle, causing him to re-examine his methods of dealing with people.
The Who influenced hard rock bands such as Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Guns N Roses. The Who have also influenced pop punk and Britpop bands Panic! at the Disco, Blur, and Oasis.
Origins (1958–1965) The origins of The Guess Who date back to 1958, when Winnipeg singer/guitarist Chad Allan formed a local rock band called Allan and the Silvertones.
Are there any original members left in The Guess Who?
Peterson, Cummings, Bachman, and Jim Kale were the original Guess Who members, although Peterson is the only one still playing with the group.
According to Guinness World Records, Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" (1942) as performed by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single worldwide, with estimated sales of over 50 million copies.

What did the band Slaves changed their name to?

Mercury's grandiose appearance translated to him choosing the band name “Queen.” Though the other members were unsure of its name, Mercury insisted on the larger-than-life title. Mercury noted in an interview that he chose the name because “[i]t's very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid.
Confederate Railroad have come under fire recently because of their name and their logo, getting dropped from two festival performances. But in a new interview, the band's lead singer, Danny Shirley, flatly says there's no way the band will change their name.

It's a measure of Townshend's prickly public persona that even his praise for a close friend and the guitarist he perhaps most admires most comes with an asterisk.
Over the years, Plant and Daltrey also kept a good friendship despite Plant's attempts to undermine Daltrey's role in The Who. "Robert's got incredible courage," Daltrey once said.
From the moment that Kenney Jones was asked to become a full-fledged member of the Who following Moon's death, he had to suffer unfair comparisons to the Who's original drummer. As is now well known, tensions within the band led to Kenney's eventual falling out with his former band members.
Three great influences that shaped The Beatles' music include Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and The one and only King, Elvis Presley. While all three of these musicians impacted The Beatles strongly, Elvis' style, sound, and all around charisma left a lasting impression on all four of the young, eager members.

The Guess Who
The classic “Guess Who” game consists of 24 characters and at the beginning five of them were women (now six).
Why is female gender regarded as a "characteristic", while male gender is not? After reading O'Connell's post, I dragged my kids' game out of our closet to verify the characters and, sure enough, the original characters -- titled "Usual Suspects" -- do include five girls and 19 boys.

In their early teens, they played in a Dixieland band, with Entwistle on trumpet and Townshend on banjo. By the early '60s, the pair had formed a rock & roll band, but in 1962 Entwistle joined the Detours, a hard-edged group featuring a sheet-metal worker named Roger Daltrey on lead guitar.
With Allan departed, the "Chad Allan and the Expressions" subtitle was dropped from the band's releases, and they were billed solely as The Guess Who?. (The question mark would be dropped in 1968.)
Now, a new documentary out tomorrow called Lambert & Stamp tells the untold story of the two men who discovered and managed The Who. In London in the 1960s, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon and John Entwistle were in a scrappy band called The High Numbers, playing for young "mods" in dark, sweaty clubs.

We know now that Columbus was among the last explorers to reach the Americas, not the first. Five hundred years before Columbus, a daring band of Vikings led by Leif Eriksson set foot in North America and established a settlement.
Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the Americas in 1492.
