How long does ivermectin take to work on birds?
One drop (0.05mL) was effective for birds of bodyweight of less than 30g and two drops (0.1 mL) was effective for birds of bodyweight 30g to 100g. Significant improvement was observed after day 7 and complete eradication was observed within 2 weeks.
Vetafarm Wormout Gel is a water soluble bird wormer for use in water, or given directly to the bird via crop needle. Effectively kills all intestinal worms including Thread Worm (Capillaria spp.)
Ivermectin has been used for parasites in cage birds for ages. It kills most worms, except tape and most external parasites like blood sucking lice and mites.
Researchers have finally discovered how ivermectin, one of the most important worm-killing drugs used in both humans and animals for decades, actually works.
For roundworms and hairworms, these days there is no reason to use anything else than an avermectin such as Ivermectin ('Ivomec') or Moxidectin. These medications are just so safe and effective and of course have the handy side-effect of also killing all external parasites that suck blood. This includes all mites.
Descriptions. Ivermectin is used to treat river blindness (onchocerciasis), intestinal infection from threadworms (strongyloidiasis), and other kinds of worm infections.
Ivermectin is the drug of choice and may be given orally, topically, or by injection. 25-27 Topical or oral dosing is recommended for small birds. Ivermectin may be toxic if given intramuscularly, especially in small birds, and death may occur.
We advise the use of a registered bird wormer, Worm Out Gel. This drug contains two active worming ingredients, Praziquantal and Oxfendazole, which kills tapeworms, rounds worms, hook worms, gape worms and hair worms. All new birds should be wormed on arrival to their new home.
Many veterinarians recommend Panacur C, which contains fenbendazole as the active ingredient. It's effective against the most common species of hookworms, roundworms, tapeworms, and whipworms.
How To Use Ivermectin For Birds. Alternatively, since Ivermectin 1% is water-soluble, you can mix it in your birds' drinking water. We use 1 cc per 20 pounds of chicken body weight (take an average of your birds' weights), and dilute it in the amount of water they will finish within one day.
Can you put ivermectin in drinking water for birds?
Ivermectin Solution is for treating birds in the drinking water. 1 bottle of Ivermectin Solution will make 1 gallon of water and may be kept in the refrigerator for 14 days when you will need to retreat in 14 days.
Ivermectin is effective against the following parasites: Most species of adult roundworms, including Ascaridia galli (large roundworm), Heterakis gallinarum (cecal worm), Syngamus trachea (gapeworm), and Oxyspirura mansoni (manson eyeworm).

Ivermectin is readily absorbed after oral administration. The absorption half-life ranges from 0.5 to 2.5 h [15, 16].
In addition, the severity of the patient's symptoms was related to the number of Demodex mites, and all clinical symptoms disappeared after the eradication of Demodex mites. Ivermectin is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug that reaches peak plasma levels 5 hours after oral administration.
Their lesions disappeared from 13 to 28 days after the first treatment and their body weight increased 12.7% on average. In conclusion, ivermectin is considered to be effective for treating scaly-leg mite infections in chickens.
Ivermectin may be toxic if given intramuscularly, especially in small birds, and death may occur. 28 Two large-animal injectable propylene-glycol–based formulations of ivermectin (Ivomec—Merial) are available for extralabel use in birds in 1% (10 mg/ml) and 0.27% (2.7 mg/ml) concentrations.
